Up Close and Personal

Throughout the semester, my class has learned about soft light and some general rules of thumb, but our guest speaker, Jeremiah Stanley, encouraged us to take some risks and really think outside the box.

So, with our headshot assignment, I had a simple idea that, thankfully, turned out pretty well. Sometimes doing something simple, but doing it well, is better than far-out or avant guarde. I was also impressed with my classmates’ efforts to give the assignment an unexpected twist.

Also, sometimes photography is only as strong as its model. I was going for humor with this shoot, and my model Ericka, who previously studied theater, was perfectly comfortable being silly.
